After assuming record losses in 2011, reinsurers rebuilt capital quickly and at the end of the first half of 2012 reinsurance capital stands at a record USD480 billion. An increase of 2 percent over first quarter capital levels has brought the half year increase to 5 percent. Reinsurance supply remains higher than demand in all global regions. The reinsurance industry is in the position to provide desired reinsurance capacity to insurers in all global regions.
