. — (Best's Market Segment Report ; December 16, 2020)Sumario: The performance of the property/casualty insurance companies in 2020 has been dominated by two factors: COVID-19 and catastrophes losses, both natural and man-made. Following a relatively bengn catastrophe year in 2019, the catastrophe-affected personal and commercial lines of property coverage have experienced a notable deterioration in results so far in 2020. The impact of COVID-19 on the economy and on our normal way of life has affected the insurance industry in numerous significant ways and altered recent premium and claims trends for many lines of coverage, some more so than others. Stay-at-home orders and government-ordered business closures have resulted in a reduction in insured exposures that has limited written premium levels for some lines of coverage. Top lines premiums have also been affected by actions taken by P/C insurers to provide policyholders with premium relief in various forms, including rebates, refunds, and deferrals of payment. Most insurers have taken these steps voluntarily; in some cases nad in certain jurisdictions, the measures have been taken in accordance with state regulatory edicts1. Property-casualty. 2.
