| 520 | | | $aThe purpose of this papaer is to present two new mortality tables for railroad disability annuitants which have been developed re cently by the actuarial staff of the Railroad Retirement Board (subsequently referred to as RRB or the Board). The first table is similar to previous RRB tables in that it relates to all classes of disability retire ments permissible under the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Act (subsequently referred to as RRA) [1, 2, 3]. The second table relates only to the annuitants who meet the disability standards of the Social Security Act as they existed before the 1965 amendments. This is the first time that we have been able to isolate the experience for the latter group in order to construct an appropriate mortality table. The tables have been designed for use in the actuarial valuation of the railroad retirement plan as of December 31, 1965. They contain certain features which are necessary for the railroad retirement program but which may cast some doubt on their applicability to other retirement plans. An understanding of the problems involved may be gained from the remarks given in the section below. |
