<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: Tomatsu's photography (1930-2012) covers both chronologically and thematically with his sharp and subtle gaze more than six decades of Japanese life and history. Both in black and white and in color, Tomatsu has created a vast body of images in which he develops a poetics sometimes imbued with a realistic charge and at others plagued with visual achievement and experimentation. Undoubtedly, themes of social significance occupy a privileged place, but his approach avoids literal readings and emphatic, one-sided pronouncements, moving rather in intermediate zones. Tomatsu uses both the posed technique and images captured on the fly to map unpretentiously the life of the Japanese, both in the harshness of the postwar period and the military presence of American troops, as well as in the outbursts and student revolts of the late 1960s</dc:description>
