<subfield code="a">The void-counting technique for evaluation of the concentration of airbone respirable fibrous dust by phase contrast optical microscopy is assessed with respect to accuracy, reproducibility, case and saving of counting time compared with the conventional method of fibre counting. The method is found to have several advantages over the latter. It is concluded that more reliable and accurate estimates are obtained in the routine evaluation of airbone fibrous dust concentrations by using the void-counting method, provided the sampling is conducted properly</subfield>
