<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Eight healthy, male underground coal miners participated in a study examining psychophysically acceptable weights and physiological cost of performing combined lifting and lowering tasks in restricted headroom cinditions. Independent variables included posture, task symmetry, and vertical lift distance. Results of this study indicate that materials that must belifted manually in low-seam coal mines be designed in accordance with the decreased lifting capacity exhibited in the kneeling posture</abstract>
