<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: Energy metabolism is a biochemical process by which chemical energy is converted into the energy needed to support life functions. One of these functions is to meet the demands of work. Knowing the rate of energy expenditure for work is useful for planning physically demanding work and the proper allocation of recovery time. Therefore, it is useful to know the metabolic rate associated with work in order to evaluate some of the demands on the worker. The methods of metabolic rate assessment are divided into the following categories for the sake of presentation: measurement of oxygen consumption, estimation by task analysis, estimation by activity analysis, estimation from tables, and estimation from other physiological variables</dc:description>
