<abstract displayLabel="Summary">For outdoor workers, cold-weather hazards can be hard to avoid. Unlike some dangers, which employers can eliminate with technology or altered work practices, outdoor workers must live with the weather. Many companies have found effective ways to protect their workers from the consequences of cold weather. Typically, companies take the following protective measures: teach staff about the injuries that can result from cold-weather work; instruct workers to prevent injury with use of proper clothing, warming breaks and the buddy system; educate employees to avoid dangerous conditions whenever possible</abstract>
