<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Durante la Reunión Cumbre de Presidentes de las Américas en 1994 se llegó a un acuerdo en el sentido de que se debería eliminar en forma progresiva el plomo de la gasolina. Los resultados que se presentan en este artículo refuerzan la urgente necesidad de implementar rígidamente ese acuerdo para disminuir el daño que la contaminación e intoxicación por plomo está causando en las distintas sociedades. En este artículo, se recogen los resultados  de un estudio que se llevó a cabo con el fín de obtener una estimación de la magnitud de la exposición al plomo en la región. Dieciseis de 18 países latinoamericanos y 2 de 10 países del Caribe respondieron al cuestionario</abstract>
