<abstract displayLabel="Summary">In 1974, consequent on the earlier recommendations of a Royal Commission examining the desirability of improving the then Workers' Compensation legislation, New Zealand introduced what many have hailed as an epoch-making scheme providing earnings-related compensation for all accident victims. The Commission, realizing a need to abandon the rather eneven common law rights, was convinced that there had to be some compensatory measure, hence the 24-h compensation cover. The major criticisms that have arisen are examined and commented on, including the adventageous position in which the injured find themselves as compared with the sick and disabled</abstract>
