<abstract displayLabel="Summary">A iniciativa de Munich Re y de Desertec Foundation, en 2009 se fundó Dii, una de las más importantes iniciativas realizadas por el sector privado para la producción de energía eléctrica verde. Produce energía solar y eólica en los desiertos del norte de Africa y de Oriente Próximo de una forma sostenible y respetuosa con el clima. El objetivo a largo plazo consiste en que el 15% del consumo eléctrico europeo y una parte considerable del consumo eléctrico de los países productores queden cubiertos con la electricidad procedente de los desiertos</abstract>
