<abstract displayLabel="Summary">En el presente artículo se analiza la intervención de la Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME) en el terremoto de Haití, acercando al lector, a grandes rasgos, las características, organización y posibilidades de la UME, en general, ante cualquier tipo de riesgo y, en particular, ante el riesgo sísmico. Por otra parte, se aborda la cada vez mayor importancia que representan los Sistemas de Información Geográficos (GIS) y los servicios de mapa, en el análisis de la información y gestión de las emergencias. </abstract>
