<abstract displayLabel="Summary">En Europe, les citoyens et les entreprises sont en général bien couverts contre le risque de tempêtes, avec un taux de pénétration de la garantie satisfaisant. La contrepartie de cette prise en charge, c'est qu'il s'agit du risque assuranciel majeur d'une société d'assurance IARD. En effet, une seule tempête peut dévaster un territoire plus large que n'importe quel autre événement naturel et toucher simultanément plusieurs pays. Le but de cet article est donc de visiter la nature très spécifique du risque, d'identifier la manière dont l'industrie de l'assurance a investi dans la connaissance du risque et comment le marché s'est organisé pour le prendre en charge, avec une complémentarité forte du rôle des acteurs dans l'expertise, le pilotage, la gestion financière et opérationnelle du risque. </abstract>
