<subfield code="a">The unique responses of digital markets on COVID-19 have gifted us with an unparalleled clarity on several remarkable dynamics. COVID-19 immediately became an unstoppable force of digitization. Regardless, if talking about office jobs, studying or schooling, there was no other option than to go online. This consequently propelled an unprecedent growth to digital businesses who targeted such transformational spaces. However, these were owned by big tech to a large degree, e.g., in infrastructure, services and retail, which strengthened the market dominating role of these firms. With the same expertise that made them big in the first place, big tech companies leveraged the situation: well-filled "war chests" were used to improve business models, extent offerings and expand towards entirely new business areas. As a result, these companies became, and are still further becoming, highly diversified conglomerates which experience even more growth and market power aggregation. In this context, we decided to publish the fifth edition of the Digital Economy Compass. It aggregates and makes sense of data from both our own models as well as the most exciting and relevant third party sources out there. Data shown is structured around four emphasize topics we want to highlight: Digital dynamics affecting how economies work, eCommerce growing endlessly, FinTech reinventing everything, and global macro trends impacting us all.</subfield>
