AM Best has revised the outlook for the Italian life insurance segment to Stable from Negative, citing improvements in surrender activity and expectations of sustained positive net flows. Premium growth is expected to remain resilient in 2026, supported by both traditional products and unit-linked policies, in an interest rate environment that favors margins and investment income. The market continues to be highly concentrated, with bancassurance playing a dominant role. Italy's 2026 Budget Law introduces manageable tax burdens for insurers, which are likely to be passed on to policyholders. From a regulatory perspective, there is a strong focus on liquidity and the upcoming Solvency II review (January 2027), which is expected to provide some capital relief and reduce volatility in solvency ratios. According to the IMF macroeconomic outlook, GDP growth is projected at 0.5% for 20262027, with inflation remaining above the ECB target and downside risks in the near term
