This report analyzes the geographic distribution of business for the 20 largest European insurance groups that report under the Solvency II regulatory framework. The study assesses their international diversification, comparing the weight of domestic markets versus foreign markets in the Life and Non-Life segments. Conceptually, a sustained overall expansion is observed; the U.S. market leads in attracting international business in the Non-Life segment, while Italy dominates in the Life segment. Additionally, the report evaluates capital requirements and solvency ratios, demonstrating the sector's solid financial position. The analysis highlights how the choice between applying the standard formula or internal models for calculating capital requirements directly impacts risk sensitivity and the equity structure of each group. Finally, it concludes that the transitional and adjustment measures provided for in Solvency II have acted as a buffer to protect the stability of insurance companies against adverse fluctuations in the macroeconomic environment
