<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Destaca la importancia que tiene formarse un concepto objetivo del riesgo y disponer de estadísticas para poder planificar y tomar decisiones sobre medidas a adoptar en el campo de la economía, incluyendo a la industria aseguradora y a la política. Estadísticas que informen cabalmente sobre el carácter y la potencia de tales fenómenos naturales. Para la industria aseguradora ésta es la base apropiada y necesaria para tomar medidas de precaución adecuadas, tanto para la constitución de reservas, como para el control de cúmulos y el cálculo realista de las primas. En estos aspectos, así como en lo que a las capacidades se refiere, el reaseguro internacional juega un papel sumamente importante.</abstract>
