This paper attempts to discuss alternative approaches to remedial measures for the disposal of wastes that contain, or are related to, polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), namely, destruction techniques, containment or landfill measures, and manufacturing process changes. The destruction methods discussed include photolysis, microbiological techniques, incineration and chemical methods, and have application to polichlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Evaluation of these currently available methods has been made difficult owing to the nature and notoriety of these political wastes; however, the author has attempted to arrive at some conclusions
