Sumario: A literature search was carried out in Medline to identify studies relating to the mortality and cancer incidence of employees working in the friction-products industry with chrysotile asbestos. Four studies were identified: a factory in the U.K., a plant in Connecticut, U.S.A., two automotive parts factories in Ontario, Canada and a factory in Tianjin, China. In all these studies the design was a historical cohort study in which a group of workers was identified from records and the vital status of each employee established at the time of study. Analysis consisted of comparisons of observed mortality with the mortality expected using national or regional rates and allowing for age and period using the subject-years method
