New technology, a multicultural population, illiteracy and a generation of workers whose signs are a few reasons why many people have proposed changes to ANSI warning-sign standards. The changes would affect ANSI'sZ535.2: Environmental Facility and Safety Signs standard which spells out the style, size and shape of hazard signs in the workplace. According to Brewster, the Z535 committee has approved a set of reommended changes; full ANSI approval is expected this spring. The proposed changes might seem subtle to some. It is time for hazard signs and warnings to enter the 21st century
