<abstract>Las elecciones de diciembre; el terremoto de Arica; iniciativas legales no del todo eficientes y una economía que no retoma el camino de crecimiento; es la realidad que acompaña a un mercado compuesto por 19 aseguradoras, la mayoría extranjeras, que en los primeros seis meses de este año crecieron alrededor del 15%, cifra motivada por un aumento de los precios internacionales más que por una reactiviación. Por otra parte, el cierre del ejercicio 2000 presentó resultados finales negativos y baja rentabilidad. Este es el panorama trazado por el autor.
