<abstract>El sistema de pagos español se ha visto sometido a un intenso proceso de transformaciones, el efectivo continúa manteniéndose como el principal medio de pago. Dentro de los instrumentos distintos a éste, destaca el desarrollo experimentado por la tarjeta de pago, debido a la profusa expansión de la red de cajeros automáticos y terminales punto en venta en la última década. El menor uso del efectivo ha reducido los ingresos por señoreaje, si bien la caída en los tipos de interés ha atenuado sus efectos sobre la recaudación</abstract>
