<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Los accidentes en carretera suponen el 95 por ciento de las muertes relacionadas con el transporte en Estados Unidos. Según el Departamento de Transporte, el alcohol es la mayor causa de accidentes de tráfico y, sólo en 2002, costó la vida a 43.000 personas. Las mismas estadísticas señalan que, por cada persona fallecida, 18 son hospitalizadas y 400 requieren atención médica. Los datos alarmantes no se refieren sólo al alcohol, aún hoy el 25 por ciento de los habitantes no utiliza el cinturón de seguridad, lo que supone un grupo de riesgo de cerca de setenta millones de personas</abstract>
